ABOUT US

We had always wanted to start another family business. Our late father, Burnice Sr, had started Winfrey Disposal Service in the 1960s in Nashville, a company that served residential and commercial clients for more than 60 years. We inherited our business acumen from him. So, we decided to start a new business and use our mom's family recipe for "cha-cha" as our inspiration. Food is an equalizer. The greatest part of having a business is seeing how you can create a product that will get people of all cultures to engage with you and share the goodness.

Back in the day, many Southern families used to "can" chow chow with leftover vegetables at the end of the summer. Canning is a method to preserve food in jars at high temperatures. This allowed the items to last for a long time. By Christmas, some people would run out of their chow chow pickle. We thought it would be great for everyone to enjoy it year-round.

Karla, a journalist, who lived in many cities, discovered that people loved the burst of flavor. When she visited home, they often asked her to bring some chow chow from Nashville. Cardale and Burnice Jr were constantly asked to grab a jar from the Winfrey stash in Tennessee. Even when the private pantry was low, "Miss Judy" graciously offered family and friends a small jar. This showed us that there was a demand for the chow chow. Along with the support from our other siblings, Carlton and Victor, Winfrey Foods Royal Relish Chow Chow has become a global award-winning condiment!
